about gwc

It’s all in the name.

It’s motorsports coverage. It’s from the northeast. It’s, above all else, unbiased.

While many other outlets call themselves "media," Green-White-Checker is the only one of its kind. GWC covers stock car racing in northern New England, with an emphasis on regional tours like the American-Canadian Tour, the NASCAR Camping World East Series and the PASS North Series as well as on local tracks operating on a weekly basis in Maine.

GWC doesn’t cover teams and drivers that are on a public relations list, tracks and series that pay for advertising or exclusive friends of the site. GWC takes a journalistic approach to bringing racers and fans coverage of the events and issues that are most important to them.

Travis Barrett is the founder and editor of Green-White-Checker, a project born out of a desire to bring journalistic integrity to internet motorsports coverage. After more than a decade covering auto racing for newspapers, Barrett was honored in 2008 for media excellence at the 2008 Northeast Motorsports Expo.

In 1996, Barrett graduated from Notre Dame College with a degree in English, having concentrated in both literature and creative writing. From there, he embarked on a career in journalism, covering professional and amateur sports, including Major League Baseball, the National Football League and six years as a beat writer for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. He covered his first stock car race at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway and has been covering NASCAR events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway since 1998.

A decade of covering motorsports later, Barrett started Green-White-Checker as a way to combat the newspaper industry’s shrinking commitment – both in practice and in theory – to covering local auto racing. With the rising popularity of Web content produced exclusively by reporters who excel at their craft, GWC is poised at the forefront of regional motorsports coverage on the internet.
